Skip Wilson's squad finds the friendly confines of Erny Field to their
liking as the Owls win their home opener and first game of the season with the
help of a steller pitching performance by senior, Jeff Rugg.
GAME # 15 - MARCH 19, 2001 vs. LEHIGH
Senior Jeff Rugg turned in a masterful two-hit, fourteen strikeout complete
game performance as the Owls (1-14) played their first home game of the
season, winning a thriller, 3-2, against visiting Lehigh (3-7).
Rugg was just dominating. After Lehigh took a 2-0 lead in the fourth, the
crafty lefty settled in, retiring 16 of the last 17 Mountain Hawks he faced.
He had a streak of 13 heading into the ninth, and after a leadoff walk,
retired the last three batters to record his first victory of the season. The
fourteen strikeouts was also a career high for the southpaw.
Offensively, Bob Filler had three of the five Owl hits. His second hit
plated two Owls in the fifth when they took the lead for good and tasted
victory for the first time this year.
