GAME # 20 - MARCH 28, 2001 vs. VILLANOVA
The Temple Owls (5-15, 3-0) took advantage of nine base-on-balls and six
Villanova errors in defeating the Wildcats (8-11-1, 2-5) by a score of 10-2
at Ritchie Ashburn Field in South Philadelphia.
The Owls erupted for four second inning runs with two outs to take a 4-1
lead and never looked back. Kyle Sweppenhiser contributed a key single to
score two runs and Rob Cucinotta also added an RBI single to cap the four-run
uprising.
Cucinotta continued his torrid hitting from the Xavier series in which he
was named Atlantic 10 Player of The Week, by banging out three more hits. Bob
Filler added two hits and Kyle Sweppenhiser added three RBI for the visitors.
Sophomore Mike Caron (1-3) settled down after allowing a first inning run,
pitching a nifty three-hitter through seven innings to pick up his first win
of the season. Senior Jeff Rugg came in to pitch two scoreless innings and
give the Owls their fourth consecutive win.
