GAME # 24 - APRIL 1, 2001 vs. RHODE ISLAND
The Temple Owls (8-16, 5-1) won for the eighth time in ten tries taking a
16-1 victory over Rhode Island (14-9, 1-2) in the weekend get-away game,
taking the weekend series, 2-1.
The Owls wasted little time in getting to loser Pete Kehoe (5-1). Senior
Chris Krusen walloped a three-run homer in the first inning to set off a
scoring barrage as the Owls would score three times in four different innings
to win in a rout.
Once again the Owls bats were on fire. Five different Owls had at least
two hits with Jim Tully leading the way with four and Joe Lyall with three.
Chris Krusen knocked in four runs and Tully plated three. Centerfielder Bob
Filler became Temple's all-time leader in career at-bats breaking Tom
Whalen's (1993-96) mark of 657. Filler now has 660 career at-bats and is just
six games shy of breaking Bob Christy's career mark of most games played
(187) in an Owl uniform.
Senior Greg Powell (2-4) pitched his second consecutive complete game in
allowing just four singles. After a third inning run, Powell blanked the Rams
on just two hits the rest of the way.
