Owls Lose Doubleheader In Morgantown

The trip to Morgantown just got a little tougher for the Owls as Skip
Wilson's squad (10-17, 5-1) dropped a doubleheader to West Virginia (16-15)
by the scores of 6-3 and 8-5.
GAME # 27 - APRIL 7, 2001 @ WEST VIRGINIA
The West Virginia Mountaineers (16-15) tagged Jeff Rugg for 13 hits and
went on to win the first game of the doubleheader, 6-3.
West Virginia scored in every inning but the third, jumping out to a 3-0
lead and never looking back. Leadoff hitter Mike Frownfelter was a perfect
3-for-3 at the plate while four other Mountaineers had two hits each. For the
visiting Owls, Jim Tully had two hits and knocked in two runs.
Shane Rhodes limited the Owls to just five hits raising his record to
3-1. Senior Jeff Rugg (4-3) went the distance but saw his personal two-game
winning streak snapped.

GAME # 28 - APRIL 7, 2001 @ WEST VIRGINIA
The Temple Owls squad fought back gamily, but a seventh inning two-run
homer by third baseman, Tim McCabe, proved to be the difference as the West
Virginia (17-15) swept a doubleheader from Skip Wilson's Owls (10-18, 5-1)
winning the nightcap, 8-5. It was the Mountaineers sixth straight win.
Jim Tully was once again the hitting star for the Owls. He had two hits,
both doubles, and drove in three teammates. Bob Filler, who will tie Bob
Christy's career games record (187) tomorrow, also had two hits for the Owls.
Starter Alan Birnbrauer (1-5) took the loss for the Owls while reliever
David Maust (3-3) got the win for the Mountaineers.
