GAME # 29 - 4/8/01 @ WEST VIRGINIA
The West Virginia Mountaineers (18-15) rallied from a 3-1 deficit, scoring
three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to defeat Skip Wilson and the
Temple Owls (10-19, 5-1), 6-3, in the get-away game of their three-game
weekend set.
The Owls took a 3-1 lead in the sixth on a two-out two-run single by
catcher Jeff Roma, but the Mountaineers would come right back. Some timely
hitting and costly errors plated three runs in the home sixth and two unearned
runs in the seventh gave West Virginia the breathing room it needed.
West Virginia got three and two-thirds innings of shutout relief to hand
the Owls their third straight loss. Clayton Ewen (3-0) picked up the win while
Billy Biggs got his third save on the season.
Senior Greg Powell (2-5) went the distance for the Owls and suffered the
loss, allowing only three earned runs. The Owls committed six errors on the
afternoon.
Bob Filler, who tied Bob Christy's record of most games played at 187, had
two hits for the Owls along with Chris Krusen.
