Baseball Heads West For The NCAA Tournament

Having claimed its first Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship since 1984,
Skip Wilson's Temple Owls (27-29) will face Cal State Fullerton
(41-15), the tournament's top-seeded team, on Friday, May 25th at 7:00 PM
PST in the first round of the 2001 Division I Baseball Championship.
The Owls, making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1984,
own a 19-22 all-time record in the tournament and are one of two teams from
the state of Pennsylvania (Bucknell) in this year's tourney.
The Owls lost to Michigan and Central Michigan in the 1984 tournament.
The double-elimination regional will be held in Fullerton, California on
May 25-27. Cal State Fullerton is ranked fourth in the Baseball America poll
and fifth by Collegiate Baseball Weekly.
The Owls are led by First team All-Atlantic 10 selections Greg Powell (P)
and Kyle Sweppenhiser (3B), who was named the Most Outstanding Player of the
2001 Verizon Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship this past weekend at Disney's
Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fl.
