WOMEN'S FENCING GOES UNDEFEATED IN HOME MEET

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple University women's fencing team (11-2) defeated James Madison 23-4, Fairleigh Dickinson 24-3 and Rutgers University 15-12 in their first and only home fencing meet of the season to boost their record to 11-2 overall.

The Sabre squad finished the day undefeated after beating Fairleigh Dickinson 5-4, Rutgers 7-2 and James Madison 8-1. Sophomore Sakinah Shaahid led the way for the Owls, going undefeated in every one of her bouts. Fellow sophomore Aziza Hassan compiled a 4-2 record while Sara Ironman ended the day at 3-2. Rounding out the Sabre squad was Nicole Macomber and Amanda Gerwer who went 2-1 and 0-2 respectively.

The Foil squad was the second squad to go undefeated in the meet beating Fairleigh Dickinson 9-0, Rutgers 5-4 and James Madison 7-2. Senior Stefanie Izzolino and freshman Jeanne Browne lead the foil squad, going undefeated and posting a 6-0 and 4-0 record respectively. Sophomore Nerita Brumell contributed a 5-1 record to the squad's victory. Freshman Nenna Okoro (2-2) and Katrina Najm (1-3) rounded out the foil squad.

The Epee squad finished the day with a 2-1 record after defeating Fairleigh Dickinson and James Madison 9-0. The squad fell to Rutgers 6-3. Freshman Kera Luckhardt was the lone epeeist to go undefeated, posting a 3-0 record. Senior Julia Korony registered a 5-1 record and sophomore Stephanie Sargent went 6-2 in the meet. Sophomore Sara Forsythe rounded out the epee squad with a 4-3 record.

The Owls are back in action next week February 2 in a tri-meet with Steven's Tech and Hollins at John's Hopkins University. The meet starts at 10:00 a.m.
