SHAAHID LEADS OWLS FENCING WITH THIRD PLACE FINISH AT PENN STATE OPEN

STATE COLLEGE, PA--Senior Sakinah Shaahid led the Owls with a team high third place finish as the Temple University women's fencing team competed at the Penn State Open this weekend, November 17, 2002.

In foil action, the squad was led by freshman Jenna Remmert with a 10th place finish while sophomore Jeanne Browne placed 11th. Freshman Maryanne Forsythe and sophomore Nnenna Okoro finished back to back at 15th and 16th place respectively. Junior Nertia Brumell rounded out the foil squad placing 25th.

Juniors Stephanie Sargent and Sara Forsythe placed 13th and 14th respectively in epee action. Sophomore Kera Luckhardt tied for 34th place and sophomore Katrina Najm rounded out the epee squad placing 41st.

In sabre action, senior Sakinah Shaahid placed third while junior Aziza Hassan was a semifinalist, placing 9th. Freshman Keri Ecker placed 25th while sophomore Amanda Gerwer and senior Nicole Macomber finished 27th and 28th respectively.

Next up for the Owls is the NIWFA Christmas Invitational on Sunday December 9, 2002 at 9:00 a.m.
