#10 WOMEN'S FENCING BRINGS HOME WINNING RECORD FROM TRI-MEET

PHILADELPHIA -- The #10 ranked Temple University women's fencing team (16-3) went 2-1 this past weekend when they defeated Harvard University 17-10 and Haverford College 26-1. The Owls fell 15-12 to the Penn Quakers in a hard fought battle on Saturday afternoon at Penn.

The Epee squad led the way for the Owls going undefeated against all three schools. Sophomore Sara Forsythe posted a 9-0 record boosting her overall season record to 34-13. Senior Julia Korony also made a major contribution going 8-1 in the meet. Sophomore Stephanie Sargent and freshman Kera Luckhardt rounded out the squad going 3-3 and 2-1 respectively.

Freshman Katrina Najm led the foil squad with a 5-3 record with fellow freshman Nnenna Okoro was close behind going 4-3 in the meet. Sophomore Nerita Brumell and freshman Jeanne Browne rounded out the foil squad going 4-5 and 2-2.

Sophomores Sakinah Shaahid and Aziza Hassan led the Sabre squad with records of 5-1 and 4-1 respectively. Freshman Amanda Gerwer was close behind after compiling a 3-1 record at the tri-meet. Rounding out the squad were senior Sara Ironmen (3-3) and junior Nicole Macomber (3-3)

Next up for the Owls is a trip to Columbus, Ohio to participate in the Junior Olympics on February 16, 2002.
