OWLS SEASON OPENING SERIES AT WICHITA STATE CANCELLED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER

2.28.02 | Baseball

The defending Atlantic 10 Champion Temple Owls will have to wait until next weekend to take the playing field as inclement weather has forced the postponement of the three-game series against the Wichita State Shockers.

The cold Midwestern weather will not be a problem next week as the Owls will head south to Florida to open up their 2002 baseball season.

"We are disappointed by the cancellation because Head Coach Gene Stephenson's ballclub would have been a good measuring stick early on," said Skip Wilson, who is beginning his 43rd year as head coach of the Temple Owls. "We've had a chance to work outside here in Philadelphia with the unusual warm weather and we were looking forward to competing against one of the top teams in the country in Wichita State."

The Owls will head to Florida on March 8th during spring break looking to get started before coming up North and beginning defense of their 2001 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship.
