OWLS DROP 5-4 13-INNING AFFAIR AGAINST ROLLINS COLLEGE

The Owls opened the scoring in the visitors second. An Al Roach walk was followed by a double to left by John Quigley. Following a Mike Weckenman opo out, Keith Ramsey walked to load the bases. A strikeout later, catcher Jeff Roma walked forcing in the OWls first run.
With Rollins up 2-1, the Owls scored two in the fifth to take back the lead. Sam Sabolchick singled and Al Roach doubled him home. Following a groundout, freshman Mike Weckenman, who continues to impress at the plate, singled in Roach.
The Owls opened up a two-run lead in the eighth when Roma doubled in Fred Hilliard.
Mike Caron, who pitched a great game going 11 strong innings in his first outing of the year, was touched up for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the score.
With one gone, Luis Dieguez singled to center.Caron got Kevin Davidson to fly out and it looked like the Owls were going to win their first game of the season. However, Tito Alfonso singled and both runners moved up a base on an error on the play. that error proved costly when Jason Cloar singled in two runs to tie the score
The Owls had a chance to take the lead in the 13th inning but Sabolchick, who has hit well done south, grounded into a double play with the bases loaded ending the threat.
With freshman Brian Stamm on the mound Rollins scored the winning run in the bottom of the 13th. Stamm, who pitched a perfect 12th inning, walked the leadoff batter. Following a sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk, Jeff Halbert singled to right driving in the winning run.
The Owls continue their southern trip today with a 1:00 p.m. game against Pennsylvania at Rollins College.
