OWLS LOSE 10-6 HEARTBREAKER TO VANDERBILT IN SEASON OPENER

The Owls opened up the season scoring four funs in their initial at bat of the season. After a one-out single by Jim Tully, Sam Sabolchick doubled in Tully. Keith Ramsey followed with an RBI single and John Quigley rounded out the scoring hitting a two-run homer in his first at-bat, staking Matt Powell to a 4-0 lead.
The righthander allowed a run in the first inning but settled down as Temple took a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth. The Owls would surrendered two unearned runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to get the Commodores back int the game at 5-4.
The Owls would plate a run in the top of the eighth to take a 6-4 lead as Skip Wilson summoned senior Brandon Bruno to the mound in the bottom of the frame.
A leadoff walk and hit batsman put runners on first and second with nobody out. Scott Worth bunted and Bruno overthrew first base allowing one run to score. With runners on second and third, Karl Nonemaker had an RBI single and later on catcher Sean Luellwitz hit a two-run homer to cap the six-run eighth.
Brandon Bruno(0-1) took the loss for the Owls while Jeff Sues (2-0) got the win. Sam Sabolchick went 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI while Jim Tully and freshman Mike Weckenman singled twice for Temple.
The Owls play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning with an 11:00 a.m game against Siena following by a 2:00 p.m. game against Central Florida.
