OWLS LOSE TWO LAST INNING NAILBITERS TO ST. BONAVENTURE

In the opener, the Owls scored two in the second inning to take a quick 2-0 lead. A one out single by Jeff Roma (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) was followed by a walk to Keith Ramsey (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional). A single by Fred Hilliard (Uppaer Darby, PA/Upper Darby) loaded the bases and freshman Mike Weckenman (Newtown, Pa/Council Rock) then came through with a single to center to score two runs.
After the Bonnies tied the game in the bottom of the inning, the Owls regained the lead in the third. Following a John Quigley (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) single, Jeff Roma hit his second home run of the season, a two-runnaer, to put the Owls back up, 4-2.
Meanwhile, Owl starter Matt Powell (4-3) held the Bonnies scoreless for the next four innings, getting out of a jam in the fourth with two runners on.
Powell held St. Bonaventure to six hits until lightning struck in the home seventh. After back-to-back singles opened the inning, Powell struck out Dan Dennison before cleanup hitter Eric Wilson blasted a game-winning walkoff three-run homer.
In the nigthcap, the Owls jumped out to a 5-0 lead through four and one-half innings. Mike Weckenman delivered a big two-out two-run single to open the scoring in the second and Sam Sabolchick (Hazleton, Pa/Hazleton Area) singled in a run in the third. The Owls continued to peck away, scoing runs in the fourth and fifth, the latter on a John Quigley steal of home.
The Bonnies tied the game in the seventh. After a walk, Brian Ursone (2-2) (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner) relieved starter Mike Caron (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury). Another walk put runners on first and second and a single by Kevin Ryan plated the tying run.
The Owls threatened with two base hits in the eighth but failed to score. The Bonnies then won their second consecutive game on their last ab-bat. After a single and walk, a groundout moved the runners up a base and following a walk to load the bases, Josh Paine singled with two outs to drive home the winning run.
The Owls now take on Delaware on Tuesday in the championship game of the 2002 Liberty Bell Classic. First pitch is set at5:00 p.m. at Veterans Stadium.
