STAMM PITCHES BASEBALL TEAM TO 8-2 WIN AT BUCKNELL

4.17.02 | Baseball

Lewisburg, PA-- Freshman pitcher Bryan Stamm (Mifflinburg, PA) turned in the best performance of his short Temple career, leading the Owls to an 8-2 non-conference win at Bucknell on Wednesday. The win snapped a six-game losing streak for Temple (12-18), its longest of the 2002 season.

The left-handed Stamm (2-2) scattered four hits over seven complete innings, struck out two, walked one and allowed two runs (one earned). Brilliant defensive plays by centerfielder John Quigley and third-baseman Jerome Lopez helped Stamm out of jams. Of the 24 batters he faced, Stamm was ahead in the count 16 times.

Offensively, the Owls produced a balanced attack, led by Quigley, shortstop Mike Weckenman and second-baseman Fred Hilliard, each of whom had two hits. Quigley and Lyall each recorded an RBI, while designated hitter Pete Colon drove in two runs with a double in the seventh inning.

Temple (5-7 A-10) plays a key three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series at Massachusetts (4-8) this weekend, with a double header scheduled for Saturday and single game on Sunday in Amherst.
