TEMPLE MEN'S VARSITY EIGHT CAPTURES MURPHY CUP FOR TENTH STRAIGHT YEAR

In the varsity four, the Owls took first and second place with Temple "A" finishing with a time of 6:41.2 and Temple "B" with a time of 6:43.54. Making it a first place clean sweep for the Cherry and White men's crew was the freshman novice four who finished their race with a time of 6:45.49.
Temple's women's varsity eight just missed making it in to the finals of their race after finishing in fourth place in heat A with a time of 6:50.61. The Owls novice eight also finished in fourth place in heat A with a time of 7:13.46.
Lehigh University captured the women's varsity eight title with a time of 6:00.1 followed by Fordhman University with a time of 6:42.96 and Villanova University with a time of 6:44.75. Washington College, Drexel and Drake rounded out the women's varsity four with times of 6:54.95, 6:59.81 and 7:02.18 respectively. Bucknell University and Dowling were the top two schools in the women's varsity four with times of 7:18.15 and 7:22.46.
The Murphy Cup Regatta is an annual event held in honor of former Temple rower, John J. Murphy who rowed for Temple from 1979-1981 and led the Cherry White to five consecutive Dad Vail Regatta title's. Tragically, in the summer of 1981, Murphy was killed in a hit and run accident. The regatta is held in his memory and has grown to become on of the premier collegiate events on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
