4.21.02 | Baseball
After a scoreless first two innings,Temple (14-19, 7-8) erupted to score four runs, all with two outs, in the visitors third. Jerome Lopez (Laureldale, Pa/Muhlenberg) drew what looked to be an innocent walk with two down. Then lightning struck. Fred Hilliard (Upper Darby, Pa/Upper Darby) followed with a triple, freshman Mike Weckenman (Newtown, Pa/Council Rock), who continues to come up with big two out hits, did so again driving in Hilliard with a single. Senior Joe Lyall (Levittiown, Pa/Harry Truman) singled and John Quigley (Bensalem, Pa/Bensalem), who went four-for-four on the day, doubled to right center to drive in two runs and close out a four-run third.
Meanwhile, Caron, who faced just 31 batters, breezed through the first five innings, allowing just two hits. The Minutemen did threaten in the sixth but Caron got out of a two-on one-out rally and then settled in during the next two frames. He got the first two batters out in the ninth before a hit batter and single brought some life to the Minutemen. Caron, however, got Adam Stojanowski to fly out to right to pick up his second (2-2) win of the season.
The Owls maintain a one-game lead over Rhode Island for second place in the eastern division of the A-10. The Rams won two out of three against Fordham over the weekend, sweeping a doubleheader on Saturday but losing, 9-1, on Sunday.
