MARYLAND COOLS OFF OWLS, TAKE 8-4 DECISION IN COLLEGE PARK

On a very chilly late afternoon in College Park, Maryland, five Terrapin pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts handing the Temple Owls an 8-4 defeat.

The Owls (7-12) spotted Maryland six runs in the first three innings and never recovered. Loser Mike Caron (1-3) went the first three innings giving up six runs on seven hits. The Owls got a strong relief performance from Bryan Stamm, who went three innings allowing just one run. Harley Nagar came on in the seventh inning and pitched 1.1 innings of shutout relief.

Trailing 6-0 after thre innings, the Owls bats came to life in the fourth, scoring three runs. John Quigley, who had three hits on the day, singled to start off the inning. Pete Colon followed with a doubl and pinch hitter, Al Roach, singled in two runs. Roach would later score on a throwing error by shortstop John McCurdy.

McCurdy would make up for the error in the bottom half of the inning. After he singled, McCurdy stole second and third and scored on an infield groundout.

The Owls would score their final run on the afternoon in the seventh on doubles by Hilliard and Quigley.

The Owls take on Philadelphia University on the road at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday before returning t Erny Field this weekend for a three-game set against Atlantic 10 rival, La Salle. First pitch is set for 12 Noon on Saturday.
