HOT DOGS, PEANUTS AND TAILGATE TOP BASEBALL WEEKEND

5.9.02 | Baseball

Skip Wilson's defending Atlantic 10 Conference Temple Owls baseball team (19-24, 10-11) will finish up the regular season with a crucial three-game series at home this weekend against the visiting Saint Joseph's Hawks (14-34-1, 8-13).

The series begins on Saturday with a doubleheader slated to begin at 12 Noon. Along with the big doubleheader, the 4th & Goal group, known more for their support of Temple football, will be on hand sponsoring a tailgate to support the baseball team out beyond the right center field fence. All Temple fans are invited and your support is welcomed.

The Owls are currently in second place in the eastern division of the Atlantic 10 Conference, one game ahead of the Rhode Island Rams and two games up on the Hawks. Rhode Island travels to Olean, New York to take on the eastern division leading St. Bonaventure Bonnies. The Rams and Bonnies lock horns on Friday, with a doubleheader beginning at 12 Noon. They will conclude their three-game series on Saturday with a single game at Noon.

The Owls look to take advantage of a Saint Joseph's ballclub that is just 3-26 away from home. Conversely, the Owls are 8-4 and would like nothing more than to sweep the Hawks and finish with a winning record in Atlantic 10 play.

Remember, the place to be on Saturday is Temple's Erny Field as the Owls look to clinch a berth in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Tournament and defend their 2001 Atlantic 10 Championship next week up in Norwich, Connecticut.

If you can't make it out to Erny Fied, you can listen to all the action on WPWA, 1590-AM.
