TEMPLE VOLLEYBALL TEAM IS PRESEASON FAVORITE AMONG ATLANTIC 10 COACHES
8.22.02 | Women's Volleyball
PHILADELPHIA -- The 2002 Temple volleyball team, with nearly every player returning from the team that had a 22-10 overall record and reached the Atlantic 10 final for the fourth time in five years, is the preseason pick among the conference coaches to capture the Atlantic 10 Championship. The Owls have all six starters back from last season including senior Solana Lee, who currently ranks as the school's fourth all-time leader in assists with 2,862. Junior Yamit Haba was an all-conference performer at outside hitter who led the team in kills (475) and digs (396) in 2001. Fellow junior Xu Yun was on both the all-conference and all-championship teams last season and ranked second on the team in kills (319) and digs (262). At middle blocker, the top returner is junior Charity Hill, who had a team-high 82 blocks last season while posting 193 kills. Another key component for the Owls should be versatile junior Margaret Majewska who ranked third on the team in kills last season with 290 and second in blocks with 65. Sprinkle in a solid crop of newcomers and other solid veterans it is no wonder why the predictions for Temple are quite favorable.
