OWLS FENCING VICTORIOUS AT NORTHWESTERN MULTI MEET

EVANSTON, Ill.--The Temple University women's fencing team (4-1) defeated Wayne State 20-7, Detroit 24-3, Northwestern 14-13 and Cleveland 27-0 this afternoon, January 11, 2003 in the first day of the Northwestern Multi Meet in Evanston, Illinois. Their only loss came at the hands of Ohio State 17-10.

Junior Sara Forsythe led the way for the Owls with an 11-2 record while fellow epee squad member Stephanie Sargent went 9-4. Sophomore Katrina Najm rounded out the Epee squad with a 7-6 record.

In foil action, junior Nerita Brumell and sophomore Jeanne Browne both brought home 6-4 records. Sophomore Nnenna Okoro went 4-1 on the day while freshman Mary Anne Forsythe went 5-0.

Senior Sakinah Shaahid and junior Aziza Hassan led the Sabre squad each with a 5-3 record. Amanda Gerwer (1-3), Keri Ecker (2-0) and Nicole Macomber (3-5) each won their final bouts against rival Northwestern to secure the 14-13 victory for the Owls.

The Cherry and White will be in action again tomorrow against Michigan, Lawrence, FDU, UNC and Johns Hopkins in day two of the Northwestern Multi-Meet.
