OWLS FENCING GOES UNDEFEATED IN DAY TWO OF NORTHWESTERN MEET

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University fencing team (9-1) went undefeated in day two of the Northwestern Multi-Meet in Evanston, Illinois with victories over FDU 19-8, Michigan 24-3, UNC 21-6, Lawrence 26-1 and Johns Hopkins 21-6, bringing their two day record to 9-1.

Junior Sara Forsythe led the way for the Owls again on Sunday, going undefeated with a 12-0 record. In both days of the competition, Forsythe had a combined record of 23-2.

Rounding out the epee action was Stephanie Sargent with an 11-1 record and sophomore Katrina Najm with a 7-5 record.

Junior Nerita Brumell led the foil squad with a 9-1 record while sophomore Nnenna Okoro posted a 7-1 record and freshman Jenna Remmert went 7-6 on the day. Freshman Mary Anne Forsythe rounded out the foil squad with a 1-2 record.

Team captain Sakinah Shaahid led the sabre squad in wins with a perfect 10-0 record while junior Aziza Hassan posted a 6-0 record. Sophomore Amanda Gerwer had a 6-5 record and freshman Keri Ecker went 2-3.

Several Owls will travel to San Diego California next weekend to compete in the North American Circuit. The entire squad will be in action on January 26, 2003 in their final home match of the season at McGonigle Hall against Rutgers, James Madison and Fairleigh Dickinson.
