MEN'S SOCCER CONTINUES UNBEATEN A-10 STREAK

10.10.03 | Men's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple men's soccer team, unbeaten in Atlantic 10 Conference play, defeated Fordham, 2-1, on Friday, October 10 at Temple Stadium. Experiencing their best season since 1997, the Owls post a 6-2-2 overall and A 2-0-1 A-10 record.

The Owls dominated the game on both ends of the field against an aggressive Rams' team. Temple jumped on the board first as junior forward Nate Webb paired with freshman midfielder Ryan Heins. In the 12th minute of play Heins picked up a loose ball in the box and tapped it to Webb, who hammered a close range shot into the back of the net. Almost 12 minutes later, Webb struck again. Following a passing combination from senior Matt Moran to sophomore Anthony Donatelli, Webb found the ball at his feet and the Rams' goalie senior Nathaniel Freihaut out of position. Webb knocked the ball across the line and into the corner of the net.

Fordham scored its lone goal of the day with less than four minutes to play in the first half. On a fast break down the middle of the field, junior forward Riad Mehovis shot around the advancing Temple goalkeeper, Patrick Hannigan, for the final score of the game.

Hannigan, the reigning A-10 and Soccer Seven Player of the Week, registered three saves in the Owls' second straight A-10 victory.

Freihaut recorded six saves in a losing effort.

The Temple men's soccer team continues A-10 play on Sunday, October 12 at 1:00 p.m. when it hosts cross-town rival La Salle at Temple Stadium.
