OWLS SLAY SCARLET KNIGHTS, 3-1 IN VOLLEYBALL

New Brunswick, N.J. - The Temple volleyball team used two double-doubles to defeat Rutgers three games to one on October 21 at College Avenue Gym. The game scores were 27-30, 30-24, 30-20 and 30-17 for the Owls who have now won 10 of their last 12 after starting the season 0-5.

Senior outside hitter Xu Yun, the reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, led Temple with a match-high 20 kills and 10 digs while hitting .317. Fellow senior Liu Shu also had a double-double (16 kills, 10 digs) and hit .243. Junior setter Alison Runk had a match-high 57 assists and senior Charity Hill recorded nine blocks.

Shayla Bush led Rutgers with 10 kills and was the only Scarlet Knight to reach double figures in kills. Setter Abbey Martin had 37 assists for Rutgers.

As a team, the Owls out-hit the Scarlet Knights .272 to .103. On the defensive side of the net, both teams had 13 total team blocks.

Temple, which raised its overall record to 10-7 returns to action on Tuesday, October 28 when it hosts La Salle in crosstown, conference action. Match time is 7:00 p.m. at McGonigle Hall. Rutgers fell to 8-13 overall.
