VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS DAYTON, 3-2 TO MOVE INTO FIRST PLACE A-10 TIE

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple volleyball team won its eighth straight match, three games to two over Dayton at a special Halloween matinee on October 31 at McGonigle Hall. The game scores wer 30-26, 27-30, 30-24, 22-30 and 15-12. With the win, the Owls avenge an October 4 loss to the Flyers and move into a first place tie atop the Atlantic 10 Conference standings.

Senior outside hitter Yamit Haba led Temple with a match-high 27 kills and added 17 digs for a double-double. Haba also had four block assists in the match. Fellow seniors Liu Shu (18 kills, 14 digs) and Margaret Majewska (15 kills, 11 digs) also had double-doubles for the Owls. Junior setter Alison Runk tallied a match-high 70 assists for Temple.

Erin Treadway led Dayton with 20 kills and 11 digs. Shanna Pressler (11 kills), Shannon Gardner (11 kills) and Faye Barhorst (10 kills) also reached double figures in kills for the Flyers. Setters Nicole Schott (38) and Kelly Scott (21) combined for 59 of Dayton's 62 assists on the afternoon.

Temple, which has won 13 of its last 15 matches, improves to 13-7 overall and 9-1 in Atlantic 10 play. Dayton falls to 18-8 overall and 8-1 in conference action. In a closely contested match, the Owls out-hit the Flyers .229 to .223.

Temple will next host American in a non-conference match on Wednesday, November 5 at McGonigle Hall. Match time is 7:00 p.m.
