VOLLEYBALL TO HOST 2003 ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIP

11.18.03 | Women's Volleyball

PHILADELPHIA -- After posting a 13-1 record in Conference play, Temple (19-7/13-1), the defending Atlantic 10 champion, earned the top seed for the 2003 Atlantic 10 Women's Volleyball Championship, to be held at McGonigle Hall on Friday, November 21 and Saturday, November 22. This is Temple's second-straight regular season title and third in the last five years. Coach Bob Bertucci's Owls enter the Championship on a roll having won 14 consecutive matches and 19 of their last 21.

Dayton (23-9/12-2), the only A-10 team to defeat Temple during the regular season, enters the Championship as the No. 2 seed and is making its fourth straight appearance in the tournament. The Flyers will face No. 3 seed George Washington at 8:00 p.m. on Friday at McGonigle Hall. George Washington (21-9/8-6) was also the third seed in the 2002 Championship and fell to Temple in the title game. Despite an identical Conference record of 8-6 with Xavier, the Colonials earned the higher seed due to Championship tie-breaking rules.

Top-seeded Temple opens the Championship when it faces fourth seeded Xavier on Friday at 5:00 p.m. Xavier (14-14/8-6) won its last six Conference matches to earn the final spot in the tournament. This is Xavier's sixth straight trip to the Championship.

The A-10 Championship match is set for Saturday, November 22 at 7:00 p.m.
