VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS XAVIER, 3-1, TO ADVANCE TO A-10 FINAL

PHILADELPHIA -- The top-seeded Temple volleyball team (20-7, 13-1 A-10) defeated fourth-seeded Xavier (14-15, 8-6 A-10), 3-1, in the opening match of the Atlantic 10 Championship at Temple's McGonigle Hall on November 21. The game scores were 30-20, 30-22, 28-30 and 30-26 in favor of the Owls who advance to the Atlantic 10 Championship Final to be held on November 22 at 7:00 p.m.

Senior outside hitter Xu Yun led Temple with a match-high 22 kills and 10 digs for a double-double. She also hit .362 for the match. Fellow seniors Liu Shu (20 kills, 10 digs) and Yamit Haba (14 kills, match-high 25 digs) also had double-doubles for the Owls. Junior Alison Runk, the 2003 Setter of the Year, had a match-high 64 assists for Temple which out-hit Xavier .243 to .145. The Musketeers held the edge in blocking as they had eight total team blocks while the Owls had three.

Sophomore Kate Duchek led Xavier with 15 kills and was the only Musketeer with double-digit kill numbers. Freshmen Danielle Skrajewski and Marisa Main each added eight kills for Xavier. Main also had 34 assists for the Musketeers.

Temple will face number two-seed Dayton in Saturday's championship match. The Flyers blanked number three-seed George Washington, 3-0, in the other semifinal match. Start time for the title match is 7:00 p.m. at McGonigle Hall
