Senior outside hitters Xu Yun and Liu Shu led Temple with 16 kills apiece. Yun added 12 digs for a double-double. Fellow seniors Yamit Haba (11 kills) and Charity Hill (10 kills, 14 digs) also had double figures in kills for the Owls. Junior setter Alison Runk had a match-high 47 assists for Temple.
Erin Treadway led Dayton with 16 kills and was named Most Outstanding Player of the Championship. Shannon Gardner (10 kills)was the only other Flyer with double digit kill numbers. Nicole Schott (27 assists) and Kelly Scott (18 assists) shared the setting duties for Dayton.
The Flyers, who improved to 25-9, out-hit the Owls, who fell to 20-8, .238 to .203. The teams were even in total team blocks with 10 apiece.
Joining Treadway on the all-championship team were Sarah Hokom of Geroge Washington, Runk and Yun from Temple and Christy Utnage and Faye Barhorst from Dayton. Dayton earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Temple must hope for an at-large invitation to the "Big Dance".
The Owls close out the season by hosting the Thanksgiving Invitational, featuring Temple, George Mason, Manhattan and Xavier on Friday, November 28 and Saturday, November 29 at McGonigle Hall.
