VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS MANHATTAN, 3-1 IN THANKSGIVING INVITATIONAL

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple volleyball team improved to 21-8 on the season with a three games to one victory over Manhattan in the opening match of the Temple Volleyball Thanksgiving Invitational on November 28 at McGonigle Hall. The game scores were 30-28, 30-21, 23-30 and 30-17 in favor of the Owls who are making a late season push for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Senior outside hitter Liu Shu led Temple with 14 kills. Fellow seniors Margaret Majewska (13 kills) and Charity Hill (11 kills) also had double digit kill numbers for the Owls. Junior setter Alison Runk had a match-high 46 assists on the afternoon.

Goedel Van Cauteren led the Jaspers with a double double of 20 kills and 24 assists. Marija Pfeifer had 16 kills for Manhattan and Lori Bambauer, who shared the setting duties had 24 assists.

Temple out-hit Manhattan .287 to .193 and also held the edge in total blocks, nine to three. The Thanksgiving Invitational continues tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. with Xavier vs. George Mason, followed by Manhattan vs. Xavier at noon and Temple vs. George Mason at 2:00 p.m.
