VOLLEYBALL SURVIVES SCARE FROM RHODE ISLAND, 3-1

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple volleyball team survived a rocky start and a fiercely contested third game to win its 11th match in a row, three games to one, over Rhode Island on November 8 at McGonigle Hall. The game scores were 17-30, 30-19, 31-29 and 30-22 as Temple won the 16th of its last 18 matches.

Senior outside hitters Yamit Haba and Xu Yun each posted 18 kills (match-high) to lead the Owls. The pair had double-doubles as Yun had 24 digs while Haba had 19. Fellow senior Liu Shu (14 kills, 10 digs) also had a double-double. Junior setter Alison Runk had a match-high 55 assists.

Kaleena Miller led a trio of double-double performers for Rhode Island with 14 kills and 12 digs. Amy Kauppila (12 kills, 19 digs) and Beatriz Arana (10 kills, 13 digs) also had double-doubels for the Rams.

Temple out-hit Rhode Island .219 to .130 and had a big differential in total team blocks as the Owls had 17 to Rhode Island's seven.

Temple closes out its homestand with a non-conference match against crosstown rival Penn on Tuesday, November 11 at McGonigle Hall. Match time is 7:00 p.m.
