OWLS FALL TO NO.12 RICHMOND IN A-10 FIELD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

PHILADELPHIA. - The Temple Field hockey team was defeated by # 12 Richmond 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship game at Finnesey Field on the campus of Saint Joseph's University.

Richmond's Amanda Florio scored the game-wining goal with just under five minutes left in the first half to give the top seeded Spiders their second consecutive A-10 Conference Field Hockey Championship. The loss was Temple's sixth defeat of the season to a Top 15 team and second of the season to Richmond.

The win improves the # 12 Spiders' record to 17-3 while the Owls fall to 11-11 overall. This was Temple's third trip to the A-10 finals under head coach Lauren Fuchs (1994, 2000) and ties a personal high for wins in a season in Fuchs' 13 year coaching career. Overall it was Temple's sixth appearance in the finals.

The Spiders' Lydia Decembrino opened the scoring in the 17th minute on a penalty stroke. Temple's Rachel Barber tied the score at 1-1 on an unassisted goal in the 20th minute.

Florio's winner came off a pass from Whitney Walls in the 31st minute giving the Spiders a 2-1 lead at intermission. Heather Wrublasky added a goal in the 50th minute to seal the win.

Owls goalie Erin Conroy had 14 saves while the Spiders keeper Michelle Swartz posted one save.

Richmond out-shot Temple 21-2, and held an advantage in penalty corners, 9-3.
