TEMPLE FENCING LOSES TO PRINCETON; DEFEATS CORNELL AND JAMES MADISON
2.13.03 | Women's Fencing
The day started with an impressive 26-1 win over James Madison with both the epee and sabre squads going undefeated. The Owls then faced Princeton in fight to the finish bout that went down to the last bout with the Tigers squeaking out a victory. The Cherry and White immediately got back on track and easily defeated Cornell 16-11.
The Epee squad was led by junior Sara Forsythe who ended the day with an overall record of 6-2. Sophomore Katrina Najm ended the day with a 5-4 record while junior Stephanie Sargent finished with a 4-5 record. Newcomer Anneliese Zauser-Mannes rounded out the squad with a 1-0 record.
Sophomore Jeanne Browne and freshman Jenna Remmert led the foil squad to victory with 5-2 and 4-2 records respecitvely. Sophomore Nnenna Okoro ended the day with a perfect 2-0 record while squad leader Nerita Brumell ended with a 3-3 record. Freshman Maryanne Forsythe finished at 1-2.
The sabre squad, who won every won of their bouts, was led by Shaahid with a record of 9-0 followed by junior Aziza Hassan with a 5-2 record and senior Nicole Macomber with a 2-0 record. Freshman Keri Ecker and sophomore Amanda Gerwer ended the day with identical 2-2 records.
Remmert, Browne and Maryanne Forsythe will travel to Colorado this weekend to compete at the Junior Olympics. The next full team meet with be February 22 at Columbia where the Owls will face #3 Penn State, #1 St. Johns and Cornell.
