OWLS FENCING COMPETE AT COLUMBIA INVITATIONAL

Junior Aziza Hassan led the way for the Owls and the Sabre squad with an 8-4 record. Senior Sakinah Shaahid finished with a 7-5 record while Nicole Macomber had a 2-4 record and Keri Ecker went 1-5. Hassan played the role of spoiler when she broke Emma Baratta's (Columbia) perfect streak of 41-0.
In Foil action, freshman Jenna Remmert and sophomore Jeanne Browne led the way for the squad with 5-6 and 5-5 records respectively. Freshman Maryanne Forsythe was the lone Owl to have a perfect day bringing home a 3-0 record. Junior Nerita Brumell and sophomore Nnenna Okoro rounded out the foil squad with 0-7 and 1-1 records respectively.
Junior Sara Forsythe also had a winning record at 7-5 on the day while junior Stephanie Sargent went 6-6. Both Forsythe and Sargent had impressive victories after winning their bouts against 2000 Olympian Arlene Stevens of St. John's. Katrina Najm ended the day with a 1-8 record while Anneliese Zauser-Mannes rounded out the epee squad with a 0-3 record.
Next up for the Owls is the NIWFA Championships next weekend, March 1, 2003. The event will be held at Steven's Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J.
