OWLS FENCING PERFECT IN TRI-MEET

2.3.03 | Women's Fencing

HOBOKEN, N.J. For the second straight weekend, the Temple University women's Fencing team (16-1) were undefeated with victories over Steven's 21-6, Haverford 24-3, and Johns Hopkins 23-4 this weekend, February 1, 2003 in Hoboken, N.J. Eight of the 14 Owls that competed in the meet went undefeated in their bouts. Freshman Nnenna Okoro helped lead the Owls to victory going undefeated with a 6-0 record.

In epee, Sara Forsythe led the squad with a 9-0 record while junior Stephanie Sargent had a record of 6-2. Sophomore Katrina Najm ended the day with a 2-5 record while newcomer Anneliese Zausner-Mannes went 3-0.

The foil squad only lost one bout in the entire meet with sophomores Jeanne Brown and Nnenna Okoro and freshman Jenna Remmert bringing home perfect records of 6-0. Freshman Maryanne Forsythe brought home a 5-0 record while junior Nerita Brumell went 3-1.

Senior Sakinah Shaahid and junior Aziza Hassan led the way for the sabre squad after finishing the day with a 5-0 record. Senior Nicole Macomber ended the day with a 5-1 record while freshman Keri Ecker finished with a 4-2 record. Sophomore Amanda Gerwer rounded out the sabre squad with a 3-2 record.

Next up for the Cherry and White is a road trip to Princeton, N.J, where they will face Cornell, FDU and Princeton. The meet will begin at 1:00 a.m.
