OWLS WOMEN'S FENCING DOMINATES AT NCAA REGIONAL FENCING TOURNAMENT

PHILADELPHIA --Sending seven fencers to the finals, the Temple University Women's Fencing team (19-5) dominated at the NCAA Regional Fencing Tournament held this past weekend, March 8, 2003 in Hoboken, NJ

Senior Sakinah Shaahid and junior Aziza Hassan led the way for the Owls finishing third and fourth respectively in the sabre competition. Freshman Keri Ecker placed 22nd and senior Nicole Macomber finished 23rd to round out the sabre squad.

Junior Sara Forsythe placed fifth overall for the epee squad while fellow junior Stephanie Sargent placed ninth. Katrina Najm rounded out the squad with a 31st place finish.

Temple's foil squad was the only team in the competition to send three people to the finals. They included sophomore Jeanne Browne (6th), Jenna Remmert (7th) and Nerita Brumell (11th). Freshman Maryanne Forsythe and sophomore Nnenna Okoro placed 16th and 29th respectively.

" This was our toughest meet of the season and I am very pleased with how the team performed," said Head Coach Nikki Franke. "We are looking forward to Wednesday when the qualifiers for the NCAA Tournament are announced."
