SOUTH ALABAMA HANDS OWLS 11-3 DEFEAT IN MOBILE, ALABAMA

South Alabama jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and went on to defeat the Temple Owls, 11-3, down in Mobile, Alabama on Friday night.

South Alabama (11-7) scored four runs on four hits off starter and loser Matt Powell (0-3) (Holland, Pa/Council Rock) as the Owls themselves could collect just two hits off starter Clark Girardeau (1-0) in his five innings on the mound. Bert Heath came on and went the last four innings for South Alabama.

For Temple, juniors John Quigley (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) and Al Roach (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) homered while Roach also added a double in four at-bats.

The Owls could do little against starter Clark Girardeau while Powell gave up 11 runs, nine of which were earned, on 14 hits.

The Owls will finish up their spring trip on Sturday with a doubleheader against South Alabama at Stanky Field beginning at 1:00 p.m. (CST).

Weather and field conditions permitting, the Owls will open up its home schedule on Tuesday, March 18 against Bucknell at Erny Field at 3:00 p.m.
