FIVE OWLS QUALIFY FOR NCAA FENCING TOURNAMENT

PHILADELPHIA--The Temple University women's fencing team (19-5) qualified five fencers including senior Sakinah Shaahid (sabre), juniors Aziza Hassan (sabre) and Sara Forsythe (epee), sophomore Jeanne Browne (foil) and freshman Jenna Remmert (foil) to compete in the NCAA National Fencing Tournament held March 21-24, 2003 at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

This will be the third straight year that Forsythe has qualified for the tournament while it is the second for Hassan and Browne. This will be the first trip for Remmert. Shaahid is a two-time All-American and is currently ranked fourth in the nation in the sabre competition.

According to the third and final United State Fencing Association poll, the Owls will go into next week's competition ranked seventh.
