OWLS BASEBALL ENDS ALABAMA TRIP WITH 5-4 LOSS TO TROY STATE
3.2.03 | Baseball
The Owls (0-3) got a second straight complete game, this one from starter Matt Powell (Holland, PA/Council Rock), but the Trojans pushed across the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the victory.
Temple got three home runs in the game after suffering a 3-0 setback on Saturday against Northwestern. The round trippers came off the bats of Rob Cucinotta (Drexel Hill, Pa/Monsignor Bonner), Mike Silverman (Owings Mills, Md/McDonough) and Jason Connor (Norristown, Pa/Kennedy Kendrick). Connor also added a single and a double to his totals.
Powell (0-1), who pitched one-third of an inning in the Owls season opener, pitched well but suffered the loss.
All things considered, the Owls held their own over the weekend against three squads who had seen time on the diamond prior to the Wiregrass Classic.
The Owls are off until Friday when they travel to the Bayou to take on the University of New Orleans for the start of their spring trip. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
