BASEBALL WINS GAME SHORTENED BY DARKNESS WITH LEHIGH, 7-4
3.26.03 | Baseball
The Owls (4-13) fell behind 1-0 but scored four runs in the home third to take a 4-1 lead. Temple loaded the bases on an error and two walks and then some sloppy Lehigh fielding allowed the Owls to plate four unearned runs. Left fielder Al Roach (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) lifted a routine pop up into short right field that fell in between three Lehigh fielders as Roach slid in to second with a double just beating the throw. Center fielder John Quigley (Bensalem, Pa/Bensalem) followed with a double to score two more runs.
Lehigh (8-8) battled back to score a pair of runs off starter Tim Andrel (Laureldale, Pa/Muhlenberg) but reliever Chris Kurtz (2-0) (Richboro, Pa/Archbishop Wood) came on to pitch the final 1.1 innings to pick up his second win of the season.
The Owls added three more runs in the fourth to extend its lead to 7-3. The big hits in the inning were a double to left center by Fred Hilliard (Broomall, Pa/Upper Darby) and a Jason Connor (Norristown, Pa/Kennedy Kendrick) double.
The Owls continue play tomorrow with a road game scheduled at 3:00 p.m. up in Easton, Pa. against Lafayette College.
