BASEBALL DROPS 4-3 LAST INNING AFFAIR TO NEW ORLEANS

The Owls (0-4) rallied from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game in the top of the eighth only to see New Orleans (9-6) push across the winning run in the bottom of the ninth off loser and complete game starter, Matt Powell (0-2).
Trailing 3-1 in the top of the sixth, Gene Burpoe walked and moved to second on a ground out by first baseman, Rob Cucinotta. Following a pop out by Al Roach, center fielder John Quigley drove in his second run of the game with a single to left field. Quigley's first run batted in came in the fourth inning on a solo home run.
Meanwhile, senior right hander Matt Powell held the Privateers scoreless over the next two innings to keep the Owls close. The Owls would then tie the game in the visitor's eighth when Roach singled through the left side to put the tying run on. Following a pitching change, Quigley sacrificed Roach into scoring position. After a ground out by catcher Jeff Roma, who was seeing his first action of the year, shortstop Jason Connor walked. The Owls then pulled off a double-steal as Roach stole home to knot the score at 3-apiece.
The game stayed tied until the home ninth. After Gabe Trevino reached on an infield error, Brad Domreis singled to put runners on first and second. A fielders choice advanced Trevino to third and the first baseman would score on another infielder's choice to send the Owls to its fourth loss of the young season.
Matt Powell, who went the distance for the Owls, gave up just one earned run while striking out six batters.
Temple continues its south swing with a 1:00 p.m. game against these same New Orleans Privateers on Saturday afternoon.
