OWLS RIDE POWELL'S ARM TO 13-0 WIN OVER SAINT JOSEPH'S
4.12.03 | Baseball
Temple (10-13, 4-3) jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning and cruised from their behind Powell (2-4), who has now pitched 13 scoreless innings in succession.
In the visitiors first, the Owls got RBI hits from Al Roach (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and Jason Connor (Norristown, Pa/Kennedy Kendrick) along with a sacrifice fly off the bat of senior Jeff Roma (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott).
Meanwhile, Powell settled in after getting out of a bases loaded jam in the home first. The senior right hander went on to strike out six while walking just two.
The Owls put the game away in the visitors fourth thanks to two home runs. Center fielder John Quigley (Bensalem, Pa/Bensalem), returning to the lineup after missing five games with a broken finger, hit a two-run homer to right center and Hilliard followed that with a grand slam to put the game out of reach.
The two teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but because of field conditions, only one game was played. The cross-town rivals will play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at Noon. The first game will be a seven-inning affair with the nightcap a nine-inning game.
