TEMPLE RELIEVER CHRIS KURTZ NAMED ATLANTIC 10 CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Kurtz appeared in four games for the Owls this past week, picking up two wins and two saves in relief. The two saves were his first in an Owl uniform. He was also named the Most Valuable Player while helping the Temple Owls win their third Liberty Bell Classic title at Veterans Stadium last week. Kurtz appeared in all three Liberty Bell Classic games. While winning two games and picking up a save in the Classic, Kurtz pitched a total of 7.0 innings in relief allowing just one run on two hits. He walked three while striking out nine batters.
For the week, Kurtz appeared in four games allowing just one run in 8.1 innings pitched. Kurtz struck out 10 batters while walking three.
The Owls (9-13, 3-3) are in the midst of a seven game winning streak, their longest since the 2001 season. Temple swept a three-game home series this past weekend against Dayton. In that series, Kurtz picked up a win and a save. He threw 3.1 innings, allowing no runs on just one hit. He also struck out a pair of Flyers while walking just one.
Weather permitting, the Owls continue play with a road game at Penn at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8 and a home game against Drexel at Erny Field on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
