The Fordham Rams rode the three-hit complete game effort of Bryan Kelly to defeat the Temple Owls, 4-2, in the first game and came back from a 5-0 deficit in the first-inning of the second game to capture a 13-8 victory over the Owls to complete a doubleheader sweep up in the Bronx, New York on Saturday afternoon.

Fordham (15-24, 7-12) took the first game as Bryan Kelly (2-4) tossed a three-hit complete game while walking just one and striking out three.

With the game tied at 1-1 entering the bottom of the fifth, the Rams reached starter and loser Justin Mendek (2-4) (Blackwood, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) for three runs. The big hit in the inning was a one-out two-run triple by third baseman, Kurt Thomas.

The Owls came back with a run in the sixth on a single by center fielder John Quigley (Bensalem, Pa/Bensalem) but could muster no further rally.

The Owls (18-22, 8-9) came out of the gate quickly in the second game, scoring five runs to take a 5-0 lead. But, the Owls defense did not help starter Matt Powell (Holland, Pa/Councel Rock), committing three errors, as the Rams put a six spot on the board to take a 6-5 lead after one inning.

The Rams then scored five runs in the bottom of the third to take an 11-6 lead, a lead they would never relinquish.

The two teams will finish up their three-game series tomorrow with a single game at 12 Noon.
