MEN'S CREW PERFORMS WELL AT IRA CHAMPIONSHIPS

CHERRY HILL, NJ-The Temple men's varsity heavyweight eight crew finished fourth in the petite final at the 2003 IRA National Championships at Cooper River Park in Camden County, N.J. on Saturday, May 31. The Owls, under the direction of head coach Gavin White, posted a time of 5:55.36 in the petite final to edge eastern rival Rutgers, who finished fifth with a 5:55.49 effort.

Temple advanced to Friday's semifinal via the third rep after finishing fourth in its initial heat on Thursday morning. The Owls finished fifth (5:51.38) in a highly contested semifinal I race that featured Harvard (5:39.82), California (5:42.98), Wisconsin (5:44.18) and Brown (5:45.66).

Harvard won the varsity heavyweight eight crown with a 5:43.41 time in the grand final, ahead of Washington (5:47.23) and California (5:48.33). The Crimson also captured the lightweight varsity eight title and accumulated enough points to win the Ten Ecyk IRA points trophy, ahead of Wisconsin and Cal.
