on-field ceremony prior to the last regular season baseball game to be played at Veterans Stadium on Sunday, September 28.
The Phillies are thanking the city for their support of various Phillies programs that have been held at Veterans Stadium and have asked the Temple University baseball program for a representative as winners of the 2003 Liberty Bell Classic played in the spring at Veterans Stadium. Since the inception of the Classic in 1992, Temple has been crowned champions three times and finished runner-up twice. Following a team meeting, the Temple squad designated the senior from Medford, New Jersey (Shawnee High School) to represent the Classic in the pre-game ceremony.
During the playing of the national anthem, the Phillies are designating an individual to stand at each playing position on the field in place of Phillie players. Roach will take his regular playing position in left field during the ceremony.
Roach has played 109 games in an Owl uniform and has a .284 career batting average. He started all 47 games last year and led the Owls with 27 extra base hits, in multiple hit games with 18 and had the longest hitting streak of the season (13) for head coach Skip Wilson's squad. Roach also was third on the team with nine home runs.
