VOLLEYBALL DOWNS DAYTON 3-2 IN THRILLER

PHILADELPHIA - It was everything a match between the Atlantic 10's top two teams should be and in the end, the Temple volleyball team emerged victorious, 3-2 over Dayton at McGonigle Hall on October 8.  The game scores were 20-30, 30-18, 30-27, 28-30 and 15-12.  With the win, the Owls remain unbeaten (3-0) in conference play while the Flyers fell to 3-1.

Freshman Yue Liu, the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week, played like a grizzled veteran and led Temple with a match-high 23 kills and added 22 digs for a double-double.  Senior Zhen Jia Liu added 21 kills and 22 digs for a double-double of her own.  Senior setter Alison Runk had a match-high 53 assists for the Owls.

Christy Utnage led Dayton with 19 kills and 18 digs.  Faye Barhorst added 18 kills and setter Nicole Schott had 39 assists for the Flyers.

Temple improves to 6-12 overall and 3-0 in the A-10 to sit alone atop the conference standings.  Dayton (11-6, 3-1) slips to second place in the league. 

The Owls will next face Xavier on Saturday, October 9 at McGonigle Hall.  Match time is set for 4:00 p.m.
