VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO XAVIER, 3-2 IN FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS

PHILADELPHIA - Despite winning the first two games of its Homecoming Weekend match with Xavier, the Temple volleyball team lost to the Musketeers, 3-2 to drop its first conference match of the season at McGonigle Hall on October 9. The game scores were 30-28, 30-26, 24-30, 18-30 and 12-15.
For the second straight match, freshman Yue Liu led Temple registering a match-high 25 kills and adding 17 digs for yet another double-double while hitting .333. Senior Zhen Jia Liu also recorded a double-double with 20 kills and 23 digs. Senior setter Alison Runk had 64 assists for the Owls.
Danielle Skrajewski led a quartet of double digit kill performers for Xavier with 23 kills and 23 digs for a double-double of her own while hitting a sizzling .639. Kate Duchek (18 kills, 17 digs), Jill Quayle (15 kills) and Astyn Bjorkland (12 kills) also starred for the Musketeers.
With the loss, Temple falls to 6-13 overall and 3-1 in A-10 play. Xavier improves to 10-8 overall and 4-1 in the conference. Next up for Temple, a visit from city and conference rival La Salle on Tuesday, October 12. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
