VOLLEYBALL RALLIES TO BEAT RHODY, 3-2

KINGSTON, RI - Temple rallied back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat a gritty Rhode Island club, 3-2, in Atlantic 10 volleyball action at Keaney Gymasnium on Friday night. Freshman Yue Liu led the way with 17 kills and senior Alison Runk dished 38 assists as the Owls improve to 13-16 overall and 10-3 in the A-10. The Rams fall to 8-17 and 3-10.

It was a rollercoaster match for the Owls, who avoided a loss at the hands of the upset minded Rams. Rhody took game one, 30-23, and hung around in game two before the Cherry and White scored 14 of the final 17 points to win 30-18. Rhode Island struggled in the second game, hitting .000 against Temple's match-high .375.

In game three, it was the Owls which struggled. Temple sported a -.094 hitting percentage and saw URI take a 2-1 lead after dominating the third game, 30-16. Showing the resolve that has made Temple one of the contenders for the league title, the Owls came back to win games four (30-25) and five (15-9). The decisive game five began with Rhode Island taking a 3-0 lead, but the visitors responded with a 10-3 run to sport a 10-6 advantage.

Senior Zhen Jia Liu added 13 kills and a team-high 14 digs, while freshman Sun Ying Ling chipped in with 12 kills. Rhody placed four players in double-digits kills, paced by Kaleena Miller's 20. Chelsea Wisz had a match-high 53 assists in the loss.

Temple finishes the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Fordham. Game-time is 4 p.m.
