FOUR TEMPLE FENCERS QUALIFY FOR SEMIFINALS AT PSU OPEN

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA -- Four Temple women fencers reached the semifinals at the Penn State Open Saturday. The meet boasted participants from over 20 universities and marked the 32nd year of the event.

Juniors Keri Ecker, Maryanne Forsythe, Jenna Remmert and sophomore Rachel Eschenbach all qualified for the semifinals. Ecker finished 16th in the saber competition. Forsythe placed an Owl's best 10th for the day in the foil competition while foil teammate Remmert placed 13th. Eschenbach finished 13th in the epee competition.

Freshman Kristine Jones finished 19th in the saber competition while senior Nnenna Okoro finished 25th. Junior Amanda Gerwer and sophomore Kaitlyn White rounded out the saber squad, finishing 49th and 52nd respectively. Providenza of Notre Dame won the sabre competition.

In the women's epee competition freshman Joanna Drews finished 24th. Fellow freshman Ninah Bell placed 57th. Penn State's Trzopek took first place in the epee competition.

In the foil event freshman Samantha Myles and senior Jeanne Browne finished 18th and 19th respectively. Thompson of Ohio State finished first in the foil competition.
