VOLLEYBALL TO COMPETE AT A-10 TOURNEY ON FRIDAY

PHILADELPHIA - Third-seeded Temple arrives in Pittsburgh for the Atlantic 10 Championships looking for its second conference title in the past three seasons. Second-seeded Xavier awaits the Owls in the semifinals, set to begin Friday at 7:30 p.m. #1 Dayton faces #4 Duquesne. Follow the action live via GameTracker.
The Owls are 3-3 against the tournament field after sweeping Duquesne (3-0, 3-0), splitting with Dayton (3-2, 0-3) and dropping two games to Xavier (2-3, 0-3).
Senior Alison Runk has moved into second place on the Temple career assists list with 4,200 helpers. Heidi Lombardo (1993-96) holds the record with 5,152 assists.
TU is making its ninth consecutive A-10 Tournament appearance and has won four championships, the last coming in 2002. Temple fell to Dayton, 3-0, in last year's final at McGonigle Hall.
Freshman Yue Liu captured a league-leading four A-10 Rookie of the Week honors, with the last coming in the final week of the regular season. The Tian Jing, China native averaged 4.73 kills/game in leading the Owls to a 3-0 record.
Temple has three natives of China on its roster. Senior Zhen Jia Liu and Yan Liu are natives of Shanghai, while Yue Liu hails from Tian Jing.
Head coach Bob Bertucci is 22 wins short of becoming the winningest coach in program history. At 226-92 overall, he trails Kay Corcoran, who compiled a 247-159 record from 1977-85.
The winner of the Atlantic 10 Championships receives the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, which begins play on December 3.
