TEMPLE EDGES AUBURN, 3-2, IN SEASON FINALE

ORANGE BEACH, AL -- Four players reached double-digits in kills and senior Alison Runk had 54 assists as Temple edged host Auburn, 3-2, in a five-set thriller at the American Riviera Classic on Saturday afternoon in the season finale for both teams. Freshman Yue Liu paced the Owls with 20 kills, who finish their season with a 15-18 record. #22 Florida A&M swept Xavier, 3-0, in the day's other contest.
Temple finished its season strong, hitting .338 on the day and .500 in the deciding fifth game. TU won game one 30-23, but dropped the second game, 30-19. The Cherry and White went ahead 2-1 after taking the third game, 30-16, but dropped a 30-27 decision in game four to force a fifth and final game, which Temple won, 15-10.
Senior Zhen Jia Liu added 16 kills and a team-high 15 digs, while Ying Sun Ling chipped in with 14 kills. Freshman Christina DeMarco had 10 kills for the Owls.
Head coach Bob Bertucci graduates Runk, a three-time All-Atlantic 10 player and two-time A-10 Setter of the Year, Jill Fetrow and Laura Leis. Zhen Jia Liu has a fifth-year of eligibility remaining and will return in 2005, along with Yue Liu and Ying Sun Ling to form a potent front line.
Auburn finishes its season 11-16.
